I can't keep away from Africa! My first visit was over a decade ago and I have had my 'Africa fix' every year since then! On my recent trip to Zambia it was hard to beat the magnificent bush walking experiences. We came face-to-face with the most exciting game but were put totally at ease by our excellent guides. The animals are just one of the treats - there's the colourful birdlife too. The days are simply not long enough !!

There are so many places in the world I want to visit but I am drawn back to Africa time and time again. It could be the huge skies, the colour of the sunset, the peace when you are the only one for miles around, the incredible wildlife. Or is it the smell of the African bush, the smiles of the people, the music? There is a sense that it has all been there for millions of years which makes me feel very small but lucky to be part of it!

One of my most incredible experiences, was riding in South East Botswana. We got so close to the game, in particular herds of elephants complete with tiny calves, and still felt safe. The horses are beautifully trained, albeit quite feisty, and they can sense whenever a predator is near. Even if you can't see the leopard or the lion, you can feel through your horse that they are close. It’s an extraordinary adventure and one that I would recommend to any horse lover.

Armed with a toothbrush, torch and toilet roll, my desert adventure started in a comfortable 4x4 vehicle but quickly changed to the awkward rolling motion of an arrogant camel. The lush palm groves gave way to the ripples of dunes. A tagine was served under the stars before bed, which I feared I would share with every desert creature that moved but I slept surprisingly soundly!

Working in the South Luangwa National Park was such a special time for me. I remember often being unable to leave my room to open the bar because of hippos or elephants blocking the way. But the highlight for me was game viewing at night with a film-maker when we came across two tiny leopard cubs whose mother had gone hunting. We watched the antics of the cubs all night and an added bonus was seeing all the other nocturnal animals going about their nightly activities totally undisturbed.
